標本空間(sample space)

定義

標本空間(sample space)とはランダム実験(random experiment)Eにおいて起こりうる全ての結果の集合のことである。

標本空間 (sample space)とは試行(trial)の結果として起こりうる全ての根源事象 (fundamental event)の集合である。起こりうる全ての事象(event)の和であるとも言える。

標本空間は一般にSと表記される。
